Chicago White Sox: the start of the season
April 30, 2021
As spring training comes to a close and the start of the regular season is among us, many White Sox fans are eager to see how their team will perform in this 2021 season. Many have hope for the team, while many others are concerned about how they might play.
The season officially started on April 1st, and so the Sox have played several games since then.
The first team the Sox played was the Los Angeles Angels for a total of 4 games.
In the first game against the Angels, the Sox took a loss, with a score of 4-3. The Sox managed to score one run in the 2nd inning and two runs in the 5th. However, the Angels scored one in the 4th and 5th, and then twice in the 8th. The Sox were not able to redeem themselves, and therefore, they lost the game.
Things turned around in the 2nd game when the Sox beat the Angels 12-8. In this high-scoring game, the Sox scored four runs in the 3rd, three in the 4th, and a solid five in the 9th and final inning. The Angels were losing by seven runs in the 9th inning but could only come up with two more.
The Sox then played two more games against the Angels, losing both of them. The score of the 3rd game was 5-3, and the score of the 4th game was 7-4.
The Sox then went on to play the Seattle Mariners for a series of three games.
In the first game, the Sox successfully shut out the Mariners, beating them 6-0. They scored one run in the 2nd inning, and then 3 in the 4th and 2 in the 5th. Sox fans were thrilled to see their team not give up a single run.
The Sox then beat the Mariners for a second time, winning the game 10-4. One of the standout players in this game was the White Sox Right Fielder, Adam Eaton. He ended up scoring three runs, one of them being a home run, and only had four at-bats.
However, the next game, the White Sox, took a loss to the Mariners, 8-4. The White Sox were winning by the end of the 5th inning, 3-1, but then the Mariners managed to score seven runs in the 6th inning alone.
The White Sox then moved on and played the Kansas City Royal for a series of two games.
In the first game, the White Sox managed to once again win with a shutout, 6-0. They scored 3 of their runs in the 1st inning alone, then 1 in the 2nd, and 2 in the 6th. The Sox pitchers responsible for this shutout was pitcher Lance Lynn.
Lance Lynn was the first pitcher to throw a complete-game shutout this 2021 season. He said this:
“It’s awesome to get the first one, but it’s behind me,” Lynn said. “They scored some runs, so I was able to hit cruise control. I was glad I was able to do it at home. That was the most exciting part of all of it.”
However, in the next game, the White Sox took a close loss to the Royals, losing 4-3. They were able to take the lead, 3-2, in the 8th inning, but the Royals tied the game up in the 9th and then won it in the extra 10th.
While the start of the season for the Chicago White Sox wasn’t a fantastic one, they still have a whole season ahead of them. White Sox fans genuinely hope that their team will pick up the pace, but they will still have to wait and see.
