The Lancers defeated Morton College Panthers in a crushing 13-0 game March 26. This shutout is the most recent of 16 consecutive wins for the College of Lake County (CLC) softball team.
The effort was led by pitcher Sophia Zepeda, who threw a no-hitter to keep the Panthers off the board. Though she recorded just one strikeout, she retired every batter she faced.
Weather conditions cut down what would have been a doubleheader to a single five-inning game, but that didn’t stop the Lancers from racking up runs.
With runners on second and third, Skye Meler hit a double to left field, bringing the two runners home to start the bottom of the first inning. Then a base hit from Erin Andrews and a scramble after a wild pitch brought the score to 4-0.

The Lancers produced in the second inning by playing small ball.
A series of walks and base hits brought four more runs home. Then, Tyler Brock’s triple in the third inning added two runs for the team.
A base hit on a line drive to center field from Megan Livingston also earned her two RBIs in the fourth.
By the end of the fourth inning, the Lancers had managed 13 total runs.
The Lancers will host a doubleheader against Rock Valley College March 28. The first game will begin at 1 p.m. at the CLC Grayslake campus.
