Alex Gozon, a 20-year-old student at the College of Lake County, hopes to pursue a creative career in screenwriting to inspire the youth.
Gozon is currently living in Volo, Illinois, and received her diploma from Wauconda High School where she took part in three musical theater shows as a member of stage crew, building sets and getting some creative freedoms.
“It got me in and out of my comfort zone, but also allowed me a small insight into what working will be like, especially if you’re having a bad day, but you can’t just leave because you have a job to do,” Gozon said.
Gozon is currently a full-time student at CLC, focusing on her studies and partaking in a radio show where she often does interviews. She is majoring in English composition in hopes of one day becoming a screenwriter for movies and shows.
“I’ve always been a movie-over-books kind of person,” Gozon said. “I want to imagine myself being there as I’m watching. It gives me something to look forward to when I grow up.”
Gozon described her love for the industry, listing movies like “Fight Club,” “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “The Breakfast Club” as films that have inspired her throughout her life.
“I enjoy the visuals, especially when they use symbolism or colors to indicate a theme, showing creativity,” Gozon said. “I also enjoy physical action when it comes to comedy films and seeing the place it’s set in, if it’s magical or breathtaking.”
Gozon discussed her fears going into a creative career, knowing it’s not always a reliable choice but she hopes to overcome any challenges thrown her way.
“There are days when I question if it’ll be worth it, time and money, especially money,” she said. “But what got me through it is looking back and seeing how I don’t see myself doing anything else. Someone once told me that if you do what you love you won’t work a day in your life.”
Gozon said she hopes to one day see her name on the big screen, creating meaningful stories and portraying them creatively on for millions to watch.
“I hope that the films and TV shows I make can relate to people and inspire them, as the films I’ve watched growing up inspired me,” Gozon said.
