For a Good Cause: Clearbrook Fundraiser Event
April 13, 2022
Are you looking for somewhere to bowl with your friends and family – all the while, for a good cause? The recently developed Love-a-Bowl for Clearbrook fundraiser aims to create a fun atmosphere while connecting community members and the organization’s individuals. The event was held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 9, at Bowlero, 350 McHenry Road, in Buffalo Grove.
According to the Clearbrook website, “Clearbrook empowers adults and children with intellectual/developmental disabilities to live their fullest lives possible. We’re proud of our deep expertise that spans six decades—allowing us to care for an array of unique needs.” The website continues, saying “with a staff of 900+ and more than 60 locations across Chicagoland, Clearbrook is proud to report that 89 percent of every dollar raised goes directly into our programs and services.”
Moreover, the Clearbrook organization pushes for a certain legislature that represents and protects those with intellectual and developmental disabilities – the Guidehouse Study (HR0194).
According to HR0194, “Illinois ranks 47th among states for spending commitment for community services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, according to the 2017 State of the States in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities report published by the University of Colorado.” The bill plans to increase funding for these populations.
When asked about the Love-a-Bowl event and the Clearbrook organization, CLC student Erin Upadhayay weighed in on the accessibility and importance of the fundraiser.
“If you like to bowl, attending the Love-a-Bowl event would not only be fun, but you would be contributing to a good cause,” Upadhayay said. “Also, there is a lot of work to be done legislatively, and something as simple as bowling can support that need for change. It was also super easy to register,” she continued.
